Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) is the natural extension of the IoT paradigm to industrial applications. The need to coordinate the operations of many different plants to the goal of delivering products on the tightest possible time-to-market schedule is the main driver to the usage of data networks not only on a horizontal level but on the vertical connection from the single machine to the main control rooms where product specifications are designed. This, together with the edge-computation paradigm, is changing radically the way the single machines, sensors and devices are connected among themselves.
The seminar will cover these themes with special focus on the application of microcontroller-based devices in industrial environments.
The Lecturer
Andrea Irace graduated and earned his PhD title from the University of Naples Federico II in 1994 and 1998. He has been visiting scientist at the Deflt Techical University from 1998 to 1999. Nowadays he is a full professor of Electronics at the University of Naples Federico II and Dean of Studies in Mechatronic Engineering. His research interests include design and characterization of power semiconductor devices and circuits and also the development of ad-hoc solutions for IoT and IIoT platforms. He has authored more than 200 papers on journals and international conferences.
